Intercontinental Bank Plc is a wholly owned Nigerian financial institution established in 1989 to carry on the business of merchant banking and has evolved over the years with a vision of being the number one financial institution in Africa, and among the top 100 banks in the world.
Business Situation
Development and expansion of this financial institution made it critical to focus on some of the banks inabilities to streamline content management, and to easily locate relevant content distributed across the different branches of the bank.It was difficult and time-consuming to rapidly and effectively implement forms-based business processes, from design to publication to user access.Although most of their basic business functions were fulfilled they needed to improve communication and productivity.
Solution
For the deployment of this portal solution, Window Server 2003, Enterprise Edition with service pack 1 was used.Other components that were installed and configured on the server included, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007, supported by Microsoft SQL server 2005, SharePoint for Search, SharePoint Designer 2007.The portal facility provided an integration with other Applications like: Microsoft Live Communication Server, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Outlook to personalize the user experience.
Customizations also tailored included out-of-the-box workflow capabilities of SharePoint Server 2007 to improve departmental efficiencies by automating a paper-based process for new employees, audience targeting in which case a user in a particular audience will see Web Parts that are relevant to him.Several search features which enable users to search for both fellow staff and information enterprise-wide and a document library or a repository where corporate documents can be kept.
The corporate portal aggregated all portal services and provided a one-stop ‘window’ for finding corporate information pertaining to Intercontinental Bank Plc, and also serves as the first point of call for all users (staffs) once they log on to their system.
